How to Stay Motivated in Tough Classes

Struggling in a class doesn’t mean you are failing it. You are being challenged. Staying motivated during tough classes can be hard at times, but having the right mindset and set of strategies makes it possible. Remember you are not the only high school student going through this. Almost every high school student goes through a class that feels overwhelming, confusing, or exhausting. The important thing is learning how to push through instead of giving up.

One of the best ways to stay motivated is by setting clear goals. It is important to choose goals that challenge you but are still realistic. After that, make a simple plan and ensure to focus on one thing at a time to prevent that overwhelming feeling. Ask yourself what you want in life. What future you hope to have. Keeping this in mind will help you stay motivated to keep working hard towards that.

Another reason school can feel extra difficult is because your body and mind are changing. Hormones shift during the teen years, which can make you feel tired, unmotivated, or emotionally drained. When feeling like this, it makes it harder to get through high school. It is very important to prioritize your mental health. When you feel tired one day, take a break. You can even find a challenge or activity that gives you purpose. This can be things like clubs, sports, hobbies, or even something small you enjoy doing just for yourself. Working toward something personal can give you motivation when school feels heavy.

If things ever feel hopeless, remember that it does get better. Keep getting your work done as it helps you become a better reader, writer, thinker, and communicator. It also builds strength, discipline, and confidence. Now if things get more serious, it is important to speak with a trusted adult. They will help guide you through to tough times in high school.
